Tag Heuer have been a name synonymous with remarkable timepieces since 1860, when watchmaker Edouard Heuer first opened up shop in the Swiss village of St-Imier. The Tag Aquaracer model was launched in 1982 with the discerning sportsman in mind, particularly divers, yachtsmen rowers and other water sports enthusiasts. They offer the same style, reliability and accuracy as all Tag Heuer watches but with the added benefit of durability and precision in more extreme conditions.
There are a variety of different models within the Tag Aquaracer range, depending on the wearer’s needs. In general, though, they are all water resistant to depths of at least a few hundred feet (and up to 1000 feet for some models such as the Calibre S Regatta). They have a calibrated bezel design with different functions depending on the use, a scratch resistant dial window and feature luminous hands and markers. The majority have a stainless steel linked straps but some are available with rubber wristbands.
The women’s range of Tag Aquaracer watches is also designed for those who want to enjoy water sports in style. They are extremely elegant in their design and less sporty looking than the men’s range, but with the same emphasis on durability under extreme conditions. The women’s range has many more feminine and chic touches (as would be expected), such as pink or blue mother-of-pearl faces, 18 carat gold bezels, two-tone straps and diamond hour markers.
Current and former spokespeople for the Tag Heuer Aquaracer brand, who are believed to embody its values and image of strength, style and elegance, include tennis player Maria Sharapova, professional basketball player Yao Ming, Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan and swimmer Leisel Jones. With the Beijing Olympics just starting some of these names are going to be hot under the media spotlight - which means the brands they promote will also be in the limelight (an important event for Tag Heuer and for all the individual and Games’ sponsors).
It’s not hard to understand how Tag Heuer has earned its reputation for innovation, precision and technical excellence, and why the Tag Aquaracer range is so coveted by serious but stylish sportsmen and women throughout the world.
